Welcome!

TheSolarDance.com is a spontaneous burst of enthusiasm from a writer and amateur sky watcher who lives in northern New Mexico, USA.

Over the past ten years, as I’ve spent more time getting to know the night sky, I have searched for ways to know it more directly, less as a "map" and more as a tangible physical presence. The Solar Dance represents my first attempts to translate this search into words. My cyber-fantasy is that these brief essays can serve as the skeleton of a web site that includes contributions from and links to a wide variety of materials related to its core message of connection.

There are certainly many published works that have nurtured my curiosity about the sky. A list of some of these can be found here.

I whole-heartedly invite input (comments, essays, links) from fellow amateur astronomers, from academic researchers, and from anyone whose imagination is sparked by what they find here. Ideally, the site will grow with links and other writings sprouting from each of the essays I’ve included here, and/or from other tangents introduced by participants.
